Bristol IWW Wins Again – AGAIN! http://www.bristoliww.org.uk/bristol-iww-wins-again-again/ http://www.bristoliww.org.uk/bristol-iww-wins-again-again/#respond Fri, 02 Sep 2016 13:10:19 +0000 http://www.bristoliww.org.uk/?p=635 [...]]]> BOOM! OUR THIRD BIG WIN IN A MONTH!

Here’s how it happened:

A Fellow Worker (FW) got in touch with Bristol IWW. She had heard of us via our work supporting other Spanish migrants in the city, and after checking our website, joined the IWW and contacted us.

We assigned the FW a (recently trained) caseworker who shared her first language, and found out the facts about her situation: she had left her job as a support worker 2 months ago, and was still owed £417 in wages. The FW had tried to resolve the situation herself, but with no luck, and in the end the company stopped taking her phone calls or answering emails from her! How ruuuude!

Of course, it all changed when the Fighting Union contacted them. One quick google of our website and they would have seen win after win for our members in cases like this. Once the One Big Union is on the case, we’re like a dog with a bone, and there’s only ever one outcome – DOG WINS!

After an exchange of emails to ‘clarify’ the situation, and a threat of demonstration outside their offices to publicise the case, the company admitted it did owe the FW the £417. They also semi-apologised, whilst at the same time blaming the FW for not have joined the company properly, and for having left too quickly – how ruuuude!

Another member of the IWW accompanied the FW to a meeting with her ex-employers, where she completed the necessary paperwork, and was paid the next month – WIN!

The Fellow Worker was very happy with the result, and grateful for her union for accompanying her in her fight to get what she was owed. Smiles all round!

Have you had problems with your employer? Or do you want to help support those who have?

Join the IWW today, and join the fight for a better, fairer deal between workers and bosses! We can train you to be a workplace organiser and a union rep, and support other members in disputes with their employers.
